ABOUT THE CREATOR - WILLIAM ALIOTTI

Emblem for exploring and creative surfing
Widely regarded as one of the most innovative surfers of his generation, William Aliotti has carved out a career defined by experimentation and boundary-pushing. Renowned for exploring the outer edges of board design and performance, he’s made his mark by taking unconventional equipment into some of the world’s most demanding waves – from towering slabs to heavy beach breaks. His surfing is equal parts progressive and poetic: a blend of speed, flow, and technique, always driven by a vision for what’s next.

Aliotti has emerged as a force in the modern twin fin revival. What began as a personal journey has sparked a broader cultural shift, crystallised in his Twin Fin Invitationals – an event that returns surfing to its roots in creativity, style, and expression, while drawing top talent and global attention.
Aliotti’s influence extends beyond the ocean through collaborations with leading brands across entertainment, hospitality, and aviation industries. His film projects, including award-winning features, have premiered at international festivals and been widely celebrated within the media world. With millions of views across platforms like Stab, Surfer Magazine, NobodySurf, YouTube, and Instagram, he has reshaped how a generation of surfers think about boards, waves, and style.

“William Aliotti’s approach to wave dancing is unique. He powers through drawn-out turns and launches airs that leave thruster loyalists scratching their heads.”

CONTEST CRITERIA

Breaking from traditional contest formats, the Invitational took a non-competitive, peer-judged approach, with mixed heats featuring both men and women. Surfers rode only twin fin and wide-tailed fish boards, with an emphasis on style, flow, and creativity.

Each participant is encouraged to push their surfing both frontside and backside, without the usual pressure.

At the end of each day, the group gathers for a video screening, where the surfers voted on the most memorable performances.

The judging:

Style, flow and creativity are what’s going to earn you points. You have to ride both frontside and backside, and the winner will be the surfer who performs the best over the three days of surfing.

The Boards:

The MAIN EVENT will be surfed on twin-fin fishes — no small tails, no +1 fin setups. Boards need to be over 19.5 inches wide and have a proper fish-tail.
